Projects around town in September:
- Septic project is on track; hopeful we can finish by the time snow flies!
- Working on a new contract with Alger County Sheriff for a more Law Enforcement presence. Ideally, we get this done by November 15th.
- There’s a vacancy on the Planning Commission. Anyone interested should send a letter of interest to the Township Office. Rod Lowe is our new Chairperson and believes they are almost ready to end the Zoning Ordinance to the Township Board.
- Meeting scheduled on the 17th of this month with the Corp of engineers to discuss dredging plans and time issues for next summer’s harbor project. Hope to have Bill Edgerer and Tom Antsey there to add their ideas and knowledge of our erosion problems.
- Contacted by Dr. Kahbir who is offering his services in the medical center on a part time bases. He would provide office visits on a regular basis and utilize our Medical Center. This is something the board needs to discuss.
- The recreation survey results are back! They are posted on the website. Once the Planning Commission wraps up the Zoning Ordinance they will begin working on the Recreation Plan.
- I’ve heard the Altran bus (1st Wednesday of the month to Marquette) has canceled their monthly trips a few times recently. I will reach out to them to see what the problem is, but I want to start the conversation of solutions here. Could we partner with them in some way to avoid cancelation? What would it take for the township to get our own bus?
- Recycling will take place October 22nd and should move to once a month beginning November. Check the website in November for the schedule.
- The Marina officially closes on the 15th and the campground will partially close down on the same day. We will continue to keep one side open weather permitting.
Thank You all for your support!
