Tax Collection

Summer Taxes (School and County) are levied and due July 1 of each year and are payable through September 14 without penalty at the Treasurer’s office. After September 14, 1% per month interest is added.

Winter Taxes (Local and County) are levied on December 1 of each year and must be paid on or before February 16 to avoid penalty.

Beginning March 1st, all unpaid taxes are delinquent and payable at the Alger County Treasurer’s office with 4% Admin Fee and 1% per month interest added.

Senior citizens 62 years and older with a yearly household income not exceeding $40,000 can defer their taxes until February 14 without penalty on their Burt Township Homestead Property only. They need to sign the deferment form and return it to our office by September 15th of each year. To download the form click here.

To dispute your assessment, you must petition the Board of Review in writing. You are not required to attend the meeting if you have filed your petition in advance. The Meeting for this purpose is held on the second Monday in March unless otherwise posted.
