News! Corps Permit Arrived!

Grand Marais received an early Christmas present: the long-awaited construction permit from the US Army Corps of Engineers has arrived, which means that the harbor breakwall project can be put out for bids in January with construction to begin in the spring. At long last, the Grand Marais Harbor will be preserved and protected for future generations.


Township Board Meetings will now be held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month.


Request for Bids

The Burt Township Department of Public Works is seeking bids to construct a 50' by 78' pole barn construction storage/work building. Specifications are available through the Township office or the DPW. The township is also requesting estimates on a 6" poured concrete floor for same. Sealed Bids must be recieved no later than 4:00 p.m. on February 21, 2012. Mark the outside of the envelope "Sealed Bids for DPW". The township reserves the right to reject any or all bids.

Public Hearing on Outdoor and Open Burning Ordinance
Tuesday, February 21, 2012
7:00 p.m. at the Burt Township Community Center

The Burt Township Board will hold a public hearing during the Regular Township Board Meeting on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 regarding the proposed ordinance to restrict Outdoor and Open Burning. This ordinance is intended to promote the public health, safety and welfare and to safeguard the health, comfort, living conditions, safety and welfare of the citizens of the Township by regulating the air pollution and fire hazards of open burning and outdoor burning. The ordinance pertains to open burning of refuse, outdoor wood-fired boilers, burning permits, enforcement and penalties contained within the ordinance. Outdoor wood-fired boilers are to be restricted in zoning districts C-1, R-1, and most of the Bay district.

The Township Board will consider the ordinance for adoption immediately following the public hearing.

Written Comments will be received at the Burt Township Clerks Office, PO Box 430, Grand Marais, MI 49839 through 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2012.

Planning Commission has an opening for a volunteer to serve.

Zoning Board of Appeals has an opening for a volunteer to help make decisions on zoning issues, as needed.

Cemetery Committee has an opening for a volunteer to help make recommendations on policies, upgrades, and fees
